FSE director Roz Naylor and faculty affiliate Stephen Stedman met with representatives of the UN agencies in Rome on December 3 and 4, 2014 to discuss global food security issues and to present key research highlights from Professor Naylor's recent book The Evolving Sphere of Food Security. The book, published September 2014 by Oxford University Press, brings together 19 Stanford faculty authors to examine the many facets of global food security from a multidisciplinary perspective.

Naylor edited the volume and authored or co-authored several chapters, and Stedman contributed a chapter on the intersections between food security issues and traditional national security agendas. In addition to meetings and presentations with representatives from the UN's Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and World Food Program (WFP), Naylor and Stedman were the guests of honor at a dinner and reception hosted by Ambassador David Lane, the United States Representative to the United Nations Agencies in Rome.
