Biography
Melanie Gittard is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center on Food Security and the Environment at Stanford University. She holds a PhD in Development and Environmental Economics from the Paris School of Economics and CIRED, completed in 2023.
Melanie is an applied microeconomist working at the intersection of development and environmental economics. Her research studies the impacts of climate change and water pollution in sub-Saharan Africa on migration, urbanization, agricultural practices, food security and health. Her work relies on quasi-experimental designs using exhaustive administrative censuses, household surveys and satellite imagery.
